When Every Work Translation Is a Lesson, Not Just a Task

I translate work emails daily in a language I'm still learning. For months I used Google Translate, got through the task, and retained nothing. One answer, no register notes, no sense of whether I'd written something stiff or weird or accidentally rude. You can do this indefinitely and never actually learn the language — you're just outsourcing the thinking.

konid does something different: for anything you want to say, it returns three options ordered casual to formal, with the register of each explained and a nuance comparison between them. That comparison is the part that actually teaches you something. When you see the difference between the informal version a friend would text and the polished version you'd send a client, you start building a mental model of how the language works — not just a one-time answer.

The audio pronunciation plays directly through your speakers via node-edge-tts with no external API key. Supports 13+ languages including Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, French, and Hindi.

It runs as an MCP server, so it's accessible inside Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Windsurf, Zed, JetBrains, and Claude Cowork. One-line install for Claude Code:
