Yes, "passion" should be spared, but partly because it's been over-/mis-used in copywrites and marketing material so much it's become dangerous for many people pursuing not just programming but just about anything. Why? Because they are hard, and most people misunderstand passion as being similar to having fun. No, I did not mention fun.
So, I don't think true passion is bad. In fact, to do anything great and go through obstacles passion is really crucial. But it needs some other qualities as well like prioritization, abstraction, and the will to learn, and discipline, to name a few.
