Generative engines build answers by stitching passages from your site and from third parties. When those sources disagree about who you are, the model often hedges — or picks a competitor with cleaner facts. Entity consistency is the boring prerequisite behind many GEO wins.
The fields that must match
Across your homepage, About page, footer, directories and major profiles, align:
- Legal or trading name (and one clear brand name)
- Headquarters city / region
- Founding year (if you publish it)
- Core services in the same order of emphasis
- Markets served (e.g. overseas merchants only)
- Contact email and phone formats
- Logo variants that still look like one brand
You do not need identical marketing copy everywhere. You need identical facts.
Where inconsistencies usually hide
- Old directory listings created during a rebrand
- A LinkedIn company page with a different tagline set of services
- Guest posts that describe you as a "TikTok agency only" while the site now leads with GEO + crypto payments
- Translated pages that localize the company description incorrectly
- Footer NAP that still shows a previous office
A one-afternoon cleanup process
- Export your canonical fact sheet (one page).
- Crawl or manually check the top 20 external mentions and directories.
- Fix what you control; request updates where you need editor access.
- Republish a clean About / Organization schema on-site.
- Re-test 10 AI prompts that ask "who is [brand]" or "best agencies for X".
Why this helps ads and sales too
Sales calls go smoother when prospects do not find three different "minimum budgets" in Google. Ad account reviews also flag mismatched entity data between domain, payment profile and ads account.
