Very good article. I wonder... why would anyone care so much about promotion? Money? Title? Prestige? Ego? It resembles the fuzz about CS degree. I've seen terrible seniors, and excellent juniors.
I personally dont care about promotions or titles, i care much more about the value i bring to the table. Thats 100% of my focus.
Of course 75% of your post is talking about giving value (to others), so i dont criticize, just trying to point out, overthinking things not under our control usually is not a good way to go. Some things just are politics and you will be better off not noticing things and caring about doing the best job you can.
I thought it was more about personal experience of getting promoted/some dillema. But it was still worth reading even though it was about something else ;)
