This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady
What I Built
SlothTask is an AI-powered task organizer that transforms unstructured to-do lists into clear, prioritized action plans.
Instead of manually sorting through a long list of assignments, personal errands, coding tasks, and deadlines, users can paste their tasks into SlothTask and let AI organize them into categories such as:
Start Here — tasks to focus on first.
Next Steps — tasks to tackle after the initial priorities.
Quick Wins — smaller tasks that can be completed quickly.
Do Later — tasks that can wait.
The idea is simple: reduce the mental effort of deciding where to start and make it easier to take action.
Demo
🚀 Try SlothTask: https://sloth-task.vercel.app/
The application is deployed on Vercel. Add your own list of tasks and see how AI transforms it into a more structured plan.

The project is built with a lightweight frontend stack and designed for static deployment.
How I Built It
I kept the implementation focused on core web technologies while integrating an open-weight language model for task organization.
Technology stack:
HTML5 — application structure and content.
CSS3 — styling, layout, responsiveness, and visual presentation.
Vanilla JavaScript — application logic and user interactions.
SmolLM2-360M-Instruct — an open-weight language model from Hugging Face.
Transformers.js — browser-based model inference.
WebGPU — GPU acceleration where supported.
WebAssembly (WASM) — fallback inference backend.
Hugging Face Hub — model distribution.
Vercel — static website deployment.
GitHub — source-code hosting and version control.
One of the interesting aspects of this project is exploring how an open-weight language model can be integrated into a frontend application without requiring a separate application backend or a paid AI inference API.
The model runs in the browser, with its files downloaded on first use. Performance depends on browser capabilities and the user's hardware.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation creates opportunities to experiment, learn, and build without depending entirely on closed AI ecosystems.
By combining an open-weight model with an open-source inference library, I could explore local AI inference and integrate language-model capabilities into a web application using familiar frontend technologies.
This project helped me explore the practical considerations involved in bringing AI into a real application, including model loading, inference performance, browser compatibility, and deployment.
It also reinforced an important lesson: building an AI-powered product involves more than connecting a model. The surrounding user experience and technical decisions matter just as much.
The Lazy Payoff
SlothTask is built around a straightforward idea: spend less time organizing your tasks and more time working on them.
Whether you're managing college assignments, planning a coding session, or keeping track of everyday responsibilities, SlothTask aims to turn an overwhelming list into a more manageable starting point.
