Lexius 4 is here... And it changed everything

There comes a point in every project where adding another feature isn't enough.

Sometimes, you need to step back, rethink what you're building, and completely change how you approach it.

For Lexius, that point was version 4.

Lexius 4 is here. And this isn't just another update. It's the beginning of a new era.

🚀 From a code editor to something bigger

Lexius started with a simple idea: build a code editor that feels right to use.

Not an editor buried under unnecessary complexity. Not another project that sacrifices performance for endless features. Just a tool that lets you focus on writing code.

But as development continued, the vision grew.

New interfaces. Better workflows. Workspaces. Multiple editor engines. Desktop support.

And somewhere along the way, Lexius became much more than the editor I originally set out to build.

✨ What changed in Lexius 4?

A completely refreshed experience

Lexius 4 brings a redesigned interface and improved user experience. The goal isn't just to make the editor look better — it's to make working with it feel more natural.

Workspaces that actually work

Projects deserve more than a collection of open files. Workspaces are now fully working, making it easier to organize projects and move between them.

Two editor engines. One Lexius.

Lexius now supports both Monaco and Caret, its alternative editor engine.

Monaco remains the default, while Caret can be selected through Personalization.

Having the ability to switch engines opens up new possibilities for how Lexius can evolve.

And now, desktop support

Lexius is expanding beyond the browser.

With version 4.6, desktop builds are available for Windows and Linux, with installers and packages for different platforms.

Desktop support is still a work in progress, particularly when it comes to filesystem functionality. There's more work ahead, and I'd rather be transparent about that than pretend everything is finished.

🛠️ Built through experimentation

Lexius hasn't been a straight line from idea to release.

There have been rewrites, bugs, broken editor switches, packaging headaches, and plenty of moments where something that should have worked simply didn't.

Building desktop releases has been its own adventure. Getting an application to work in a browser is one thing; packaging it for different operating systems is another entirely.

But every one of those challenges has helped shape Lexius into what it is today.

I'm still learning, still experimenting, and still figuring out how to make this project better.

That's part of what makes building software exciting.

🌱 This is just the beginning

Lexius 4 represents a major step forward, but it isn't the finish line.

There are still things to improve, workflows to refine, and ideas I'd like to explore. Filesystem support needs more work, and the desktop experience has plenty of room to grow.

I don't want Lexius to become complicated just for the sake of becoming powerful. I want it to become more capable while keeping the experience focused and approachable.

That's the direction I'm aiming for.

🎉 Try Lexius

If you'd like to explore what I've been building, you can find Lexius here:

Lexius is available on the web and as a desktop application for Windows and Linux.

Give it a try, explore the new features, and let me know what you think.

Feedback, bug reports, and contributions are always welcome.

Lexius 4 isn't just a version number. It's a new chapter for the project.

And It's only getting started.
