To avoid complications, the caregiver must ensure a tight mask seal, observe proper ventilation rates (e.g., 10-12 breaths/min for adults), and monitor the patient’s chest rise and oxygen saturation.

Some patients with chronic respiratory diseases or those on long-term oxygen therapy may keep an AMBU bag at home for emergencies. In such cases, training from a respiratory therapist or doctor is essential for caregivers and family members.
