How to run Orbit by 🦊Mozilla in Chrome based browsers

Orbit is a Firefox add-on that uses AI technology to summarize and answer queries about web content, such as articles and videos. It works on various websites including Gmail, Wikipedia, NY Times, YouTube, and more. The service provides summaries and answers without requiring account creation or saving session data.

If you go to the Orbit ofical website it will say that it is only available for Firefox but here I will cover how to use it on Chromium based browsers (Chrome, Brave, Edge). Disclaimer: some functionality may not work, for example in my experience the Youtube resume tool didn't work at first but now it works well.

First you have to go to the Firefox store extension page, here we will click on Download File this will download an .xpi file. This type of file can be uncompressed using programs like 7zip, Winrar, etc …

folder extraction

Now you go to your Chromium based browser to the extensions config page in my case (brave://extensions/)

Here you have to enable the developer mode and click on load uncompressed and select the folder extracted from the .xpi file.

Nice!! Now you have the extension in your browser. To check if works see if it is enabled and re-visit the orbit page and should appear in the upper right corner of the browser.
