ECHA added n-hexane and BPAF (a fluorinated bisphenol) to the SVHC Candidate List on February 4, 2026, bringing the total to 253 substances. For body art studios, the practical exposure is narrow - solvent residues in pigments and epoxy components in packaging - and neither substance is used in PP-R random copolymer, the chemistry behind BioFlex.

What the full article covers

  • On February 4, 2026, ECHA added 2 new substances to the REACH SVHC Candidate List, taking the total from 251 to 253.

  • n-Hexane (CAS 110-54-3) is the first substance ever listed on the basis of equivalent level of concern (ELOC) - repeated-exposure neurotoxicity - rather than an intrinsic hazard class.

  • BPAF and its salts (4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]diphenol) are a fluorinated bisphenol A analogue classified as toxic to reproduction (Article 57c).

  • For body art supply chains the exposure is narrow: n-hexane is a residual solvent from pigment synthesis and carrier fluids; BPAF appears in epoxy resins used in ink bottle caps, sterilization container components and jewelry casting molds.

  • BioFlex PP-R random copolymer does not use either substance - no solvent processing, no bisphenol cross-linking - so the SVHC-Free declaration at Full data, references, and the complete technical breakdown, free, no signup.
