I kept blaming cheap buds. On deck they pair fine. Two lengths later the music is gone.
What actually happens: Bluetooth is 2.4 GHz, and water eats that band. Once your ear is under, the path from a phone on the deck to the earpiece crosses water. A waterproof rating means the hardware survives the soak — it does not mean the radio still works underwater.
What helps for uninterrupted lap sets is local audio on the headset (files loaded before you push off), so nothing has to cross the water mid-set. Turning the phone volume up does not fix a dead link.
Just a recreational lane note — not a product review.
