In many countries, a similar north-to-south climate change would require crossing several borders. In New Zealand, it happens between regions that are linked by the same language, institutions, and transport network.

A baby travel checklist becomes useful not because the country is huge, but because the climate can turn on a dime as latitude changes.

That same reality shapes tourism. A visitor can have a beach day in the north, fly or drive south, and be looking at snow country within the same week. That is not a contradiction. It is the direct result of a nation spread across enough latitude to cross multiple climate thresholds.

That is why New Zealand can seem like several climates stitched together by one coast-hugging road. The map is small. The latitude is not.
