I was slow to come around to the idea of mobile first, and, to be honest... still struggle to discipline myself to it.
However, the simplest, most obvious reason for mobile first now is... that's quite often the platform that will provide the majority of you traffic. I've seen that change in traffic with many of the sites I developed over the past decade.
As one continuously frustrated by mobile sites that are poor cousins of their desktop equivalent... please do get it right with mobile first.
