From $0 to $220 in 90 Days Selling a Digital Product (Complete Breakdown with Numbers)

Three months ago I launched a $12 digital product. Here's the complete financial breakdown — no fluff, just numbers.

The Product

Credit Optimizer v5 — A skill-based framework that reduces AI agent costs by 30-75% through intelligent model routing.

  • Format: Markdown skill file + configuration templates
  • Price: $12 (was $9 at launch, now $12, going to $19 Friday)
  • Platform: Gumroad
  • Target: AI agent power users (Manus, Devin, CrewAI)

Revenue Timeline

Week Sales Revenue Cumulative Key Event
W1 (Mar 10-16) 20 (3 paid) $11 $11 Launch (PWYW)
W2-3 5 $23 $34 Switched to fixed price
W4-5 (Apr) 8 $93 $127 Bundle launch ($12)
W6-8 (May) 7 $84 $211 Dev.to SEO articles
W9 (Jun 11-12) 1 $12 $223 WTW newsletter ad

Expenses

Item Cost ROI
Gumroad fees (~10%) -$22 Required
WTW Newsletter Ad -$200 TBD (1 sale so far)
Domain (creditopt.ai) -$12/yr Essential
Dev.to articles $0 796 views, 2+ sales
Total expenses -$234
Net profit -$11 Almost break-even!

What Worked

1. Bundle Strategy (+749% revenue)

Switching from standalone $9 to "Manus Power Stack Bundle" at $12 increased monthly revenue from $11 to $93. The bundle includes 3 complementary skills.

2. Dev.to SEO (Free traffic)

69 articles published, 796 total views. The top performers:

  • "I Tracked 3,200 Manus AI Tasks" — 121 views
  • "Building a Streamable HTTP MCP Server" — 134 views
  • "72.4% of Credits Wasted" — 112 views

Pattern: Data-driven titles with specific numbers get 10x more views.

3. Landing Page (8.9% conversion)

creditopt.ai converts at 8.9% — well above the 2-3% average for digital products. Key elements:

  • Urgency bar (countdown timer)
  • Social proof (39 sales, "As seen in WTW")
  • Gumroad overlay checkout (no redirect)
  • Exit popup with coupon code

What Didn't Work

1. Newsletter Ad ($200 → 1 sale so far)

Web Tools Weekly has 4,800 subscribers. Expected 5-10 sales, got 1 in 24h. The CPM ($41.67) is market rate, but the absolute volume is too low for a $12 product.

2. Reddit (blocked)

Tried posting in r/passive_income and r/SideProject. Both got caught by anti-spam filters (new account + links).

3. Most Dev.to articles (0 views)

Of 69 articles, 40+ have 0 views. Only articles from March (when the account was new and Dev.to boosted them) got significant traffic.

Key Metrics

Metric Value
Total transactions 60
Paid transactions 21
Conversion rate 8.9%
Average ticket $10.50
Revenue/month $73
Best month May ($84)
Customer geography US, UK, CA, DE, PL, LT, AE

What's Next (June-July)

  1. Price increase to $19 (Friday June 14) — creates urgency + higher ticket
  2. Pro tier at $29 — includes priority support + lifetime updates
  3. Affiliate program — 30% commission for existing buyers
  4. Product Hunt launch — preparing assets
  5. Target: $500/month by August

Lessons for Other Indie Hackers

  1. Start with PWYW, switch to fixed price fast — PWYW gets initial users but $0 sales dominate
  2. Bundle > Standalone — Even at the same price, "bundle" converts better (perceived value)
  3. SEO is slow but free — My March articles still drive traffic 3 months later
  4. Newsletter ads need volume — Don't spend $200 on a 5K subscriber newsletter for a $12 product
  5. Conversion > Traffic — 8.9% conversion means every visitor is valuable. Focus on getting the RIGHT visitors.

Currently at $12 — price goes to $19 on Friday. creditopt.ai | Code **WTW20* for 20% off.*
