It is done. You finally nailed it.
The hair color is perfect, the eye shape is exactly right, and the character feels yours. You go to bed happy and come back the next morning to place them in a new scene.
The generation comes back. And the character looks like a distant cousin of the one you created yesterday.
Well, this isn’t exactly a prompt problem. It lies in the workflow.
ComfyUI has a serious, technical approach to solving it. PixAI has its own approach, and it is built directly into the anime creation process.
And today, we are going to look at both of them honestly.
How ComfyUI Approaches Character Consistency
ComfyUI builds consistency through a three-layer node pipeline working together.
- IPAdapter FaceID anchors facial geometry using a reference image. The weight you set, typically 0.70 to 0.85, controls how strongly that anchor holds against the rest of the prompt.
- A trained character LoRA handles everything else: body type, clothing, art style. Applied at 0.55 to 0.65 strength, it pulls each generation back toward your established design.
- ControlNet handles pose control so scene changes do not cause the body to drift in ways that fight the other two layers.
When all three are tuned correctly, the results are genuinely impressive.
The same character upholds across wildly different scenes, lighting, and outfits, with the core identity holding.
The difficulty lies in the maintenance because node updates break existing wiring without any noise.
Sometimes, InsightFace dependency conflicts knock out the FaceID layer.
You close a session, come back a week later, and there is no guarantee the graph produces the same output, because seeds, weights, and node state all need to be manually preserved.
How PixAI Approaches Character Consistency
PixAI doesn’t ask you to assemble the tools in a workflow. It brings them into the workflow automatically. Four layers, each building on the previous. In fact, it now has PixAI Studio to make things even easier.

Practical Test: Same Character, Three Scenes
The goal of this practical test is to generate the same original character in a cafe interior, a rainy street at night, and a sunlit park, keeping face, hair, and outfit consistent across all three.
ComfyUI
Getting a basic image out of ComfyUI is manageable in the first go. You just have to load a templated workflow, write a prompt, and run it. That’s what I did for the image in the second header.
However, that’s where I would draw the “simplicity” line.
The character consistency layer is a different story.
Before any of the three scenes can be attempted with actual consistency, you need ComfyUI_IPAdapter_plus installed and confirmed compatible with your current ComfyUI version, InsightFace installed into the Python environment as a separate dependency, a trained character LoRA built from 15 to 50 reference images of your character, a base model that matches your LoRA architecture, and ControlNet with a pose model on top of all of that.
Each of these is its own installation and configuration task.
InsightFace alone involves resolving Python package conflicts that vary depending on your system.
A character LoRA has to be trained before it can be used, which takes one to four hours on capable local hardware.
And after all of that is in place, the weight parameters across IPAdapter, LoRA, and ControlNet need to be tuned against each other manually before the first generation produces a consistent result.
In practice, this is not an afternoon task. It is a multi-session setup process that requires troubleshooting at almost every step. The prompts themselves are the easy part.

For creators who get the full pipeline working, the results are reproducible and the weight adjustments between scenes become intuitive over time.
But there’s a steep learning curve and the barrier to reaching that point is high, and it resets every time a dependency updates or a session closes without proper state preservation.

For the setup, you will upload the character reference, generate a character sheet, and choose Tsubaki.2 as the base model. Here’s the initial prompt I used. It’s the same as the one I used in ComfyUI.
The three scenes go into Reference Pro as natural language instructions with the reference image active.

As you can see, PixAI keeps it consistent throughout, no matter how many times you change the background and scene, all thanks to Reference Pro.

Which Platform Fits You
Time for some more honesty. If you are building a first OC project, running a manga or webtoon series, or producing VTuber expression sets, PixAI is the perfect start.
The essentials of PixAI, including the Character Sheet Generator, Reference Pro, and Edit Pro cover the consistency workflow without infrastructure overhead, and cloud LoRA training handles long-term character work without local hardware.
ComfyUI is your best friend if you have an existing pipeline that is working, need community custom nodes or specific IPAdapter configurations, or want full mathematical control over every layer.
PixAI doesn’t do the custom node ecosystem so your workflows are not as granular as they would be in ComfyUI.
If you are already using ComfyUI and the pipeline is ruining workflows more than it is producing, PixAI is worth testing.
If it is working, the transition cost is not obviously worth it.
Conclusion
Honestly? I went into this expecting ComfyUI to win on sheer technical power, and it kind of does, if you have the time and patience to get everything installed, configured, and not broken. I spent way longer than I want to admit just trying to get the consistency pipeline running before generating a single image.
PixAI was just... easier. I uploaded my character, wrote what I wanted in plain English, and the three scenes came out looking like the same person. When something drifted, Edit Pro fixed it in one instruction. No “nodes” or anything like that.
If you are serious about technical control and already have a working ComfyUI setup, stick with it. But if you just want to make anime art and not spend your weekend troubleshooting Python packages, PixAI is genuinely the move. Go try it and see what I mean.
