How you want to play around, the kind of nodes you should add, or which assets may need to be reused later, all that totally depends on your vision and what you are trying to build with it.
For instance, if you wish to generate an animated OC introduction, you may need a sequence that includes a Text node for dialogue, an Image node for character posing, an Audio node for voiceover or music, and an Image-to-Video node for motion. However, if you just want to create an animated wallpaper, you would need fewer nodes, where one Image node connected to a Video node should be able to do the trick.
Therefore, it’s essential to identify whether you are making a short video clip, a manga page, a character banner, a multi-shot scene, or whatever your intentions are, it’s better to be crystal clear about it before you jump on to the project.
This tiny little mental map will save substantial time and will help make the canvas way cleaner, with way less clutter, and enhance your overall productivity.
Understand the Building Blocks of an AI Art Workflow
Let’s understand the building blocks—or nodes—that make the canvas. A node is a block, just like a WordPress block that adds functionality to the canvas. An image node allows for uploading or generating images from prompts, these nodes could be connected to the video node, which enables the animation of the very image you just created.
Each node is connected with a wire. This wire allows the transmission of data from one node to another. Connecting an image node to a video node allows for the video node to use the image node as a reference.


Similarly, along there on the list with image and video nodes, there is an audio and text node as well. Combining all of them allows you to manage an entire project without having to leave or switch software. This allows for enhanced productivity and also significantly lessens stress and the learning curve since you don’t have to master or at least make yourself familiar with the basics of several other software.
Start from a Blank Canvas or a Ready-Made Template
Let’s start building from the blank canvas. We just learned about the nodes; these floating creative assets allow adding context to the blank as a stone canvas. However, starting with a blank page and filling it out with nodes is not the only way to start.
You can also start a project with ready-made templates. You can choose from official ones or from PixAI’s generation.


If you are a beginner who doesn’t understand nodes or how to write prompts or how to connect them to one another, you can benefit from a ready-made template. For instance, this one:


As you can see, two “remove background” image nodes connected to another image node offer reference to generate a three-panel comic with humorous, witty dialogue. You may change the characters, prompt, add new nodes or delete the existing ones.
By starting with a template, you are skipping the initial setup phase and jumping straight into creation. It provides a pre-configured node structure where inputs, connections, and outputs are already wired together correctly. All you need to do is swap in your own prompts, upload your original character (OC) assets, or adjust a few settings to make the workflow your own.
If you are a master at your craft, however, then it’s better to go with the blank canvas, as it allows more deeper control and makes less clutter since you will only add nodes you actually need.
Build a Complete Anime Art Workflow in PixAI Studio
Now that you have basic information about the AI art workflow, let’s create one in PixAI in seven super easy steps. Starting off with the one we already discussed earlier in this guide—deciding on what you want to create and how should the output be.
Step 1. Define the creative goal
Begin with a clear goal about your project. For example, for this case study, we are going to create an original character who is a samurai, and he’s walking away from a field of battle. Now that you have a clear idea of what you need to create, let's move on to the second step.
Step 2: Create or open the workspace
If you have one already, open it. Otherwise, create a new workspace. Head over to pixai.art, create a new account if you don’t have one already—it’s free of cost and doesn’t require credit card information—and go to Studio.


Click Open PixAI Studio on the subsequent screen.


Choose a new Canvas and you should be inside at the blank canvas so empty like you came a little too early to a party. As we learned earlier, you can choose to start with completely blank ones—recommended for those familiar with this feature—or you can choose a template—new to the feature are welcomed to learn from previously made workflows.
Step 3. Add the starting idea or asset
We have established that we are generating an OC who is walking away from a battlefield victorious. So, the initial idea or assets could be the battlefield he could walk out from or the character. Since we need to create an original one, let’s generate the character.
Starting up with the basics, let’s generate a character—to make it easier to follow, we will be using a weirdly simple prompt. “Generate an image of a samurai.”


Now that we have the OC, we need the image of the battlefield where he will walk away from. Similarly, I added another image node and prompted the AI to create a battlefield after a massive, catastrophic sword fight.
Build your characters with just a prompt. Alternatively, you can also upload your own material here as a reference. But I decided to create it with a prompt.


Once I have the assets ready, let’s move on to the next step.
Step 4. Edit or expand the image
Now, let’s ensure the images look perfectly fine before we jump into the video creation process. If something is different than what you wished for, simply click the image and select the model for editing—PixAI Reference Pro is usually used for editing—and type in your prompt.


It is completely normal for the image to not turn out precisely how you wanted. In that case, add a reference for precision or try and write a more detailed prompt. Once the assets are intact, move on to the next step, which is…
Step 5. Connect the nodes
As discussed, the image nodes act as the reference images for the video generation node. Just click the node that you want to drag the wire to the other node you want it to connect with. Ensure you have the “Move” tool and not the “Hand.” Since we also need audio for the video generation, I have also added an audio node and connected it to the video one.
Alternatively, click the “Ref” button which is short for reference and you will be handed the wire that you can join to other nodes you want to use as reference.


Step 6. Action!
Once everything is in position, we are prompting AI to generate the video. Again, as a reminder, the output depends entirely on the input. If your prompt is ambiguous or misses key details, AI would assume them and come up with undesired output. Hence, editing and redoing the videos are a vital part of the AI image or video generation journey.

We just generated the character, the background, edited them, and created a video out of the two without switching software. All the tools needed are right within the reach, all you have to do is sit down and start painting.
Reuse Existing Artwork and Continue a Character Project
As we learned just now, you do not have to start with a new generation every time. Sometimes, you can bring an existing piece of artwork or a previously created Original Character (OC) directly into your canvas and build an entire project around it.
Instead of typing out long prompts to describe your character from scratch in every new scene, you can drag your existing PixAI generations into the workspace as anchor nodes. From there, you can use those initial assets to generate new poses, scenes, static images, videos—as we just did—or anything—it's creative work and the sky is your limit.
This could easily be done by double-tapping anywhere and choosing Import from PixAI, or simply using this upload button from your toolbar.

Similarly, you can incorporate more of PixAI’s generations into the canvas and use them as the starting point. And in no time, those static images would be talking, fighting, loving, or moving without you having to switch the software.
Common AI Workflow Problems and How to Improve Them
In your creation journey, you might face some common hurdles, and this section is what you should do to reduce the chances of ever encountering them.
Ensure your mental map is clear. The example we saw earlier was a mundane idea of what this tool is capable of. Extended projects get messy and tons of wires overlapping each other is never a good sign. Hence, always ensure you are starting with a clear objective of what you wish to create and least amounts of nodes possible to keep the canvas crystal clean.
Don't jump straight into generation before polishing the base image(s). If the base image has a character with a distorted face, turning it into a video will only magnify those flaws. Always double check the reference images before moving on to the next steps.
Be selective with source images for motion. Highly cluttered scenes or images with heavy visual noise wouldn’t do as well as a clean video with readable lightning for animation.
Avoid prompt overload. If you need 20 changes, do so with 20 prompts. One prompt requesting 20 changes might yield unwanted results.
Keep your wire paths logical. It’s easy to accidentally link a draft prompt or an unedited image into your final video node, leading to unexpected results that make you question your settings. Take a second to trace your wire connections from left to right.
When Is an AI Art Workflow Most Useful?
