Nobody requested it.
There was no customer ticket.
No roadmap item.
No executive approval.
I just noticed the team doing the same annoying task every morning.
So I built a tiny replacement in Greta.
The first version took less time than I expected.
I showed it to two people.
They liked it.
Then five people used it.
Then someone asked whether it could handle another workflow.
That was when the accidental product started becoming real.
What surprised me wasn't the software.
It was the discovery process.
If building the prototype had required a formal project, I would've never started.
The problem wasn't important enough.
But it was annoying enough.
And sometimes that's where useful software begins.
Not with a giant opportunity document.
With someone thinking:
“Why are we still doing this?”
Greta made the cost of answering that question small enough to experiment.
The product might eventually disappear.
Or it might become something bigger.
Either way, I learned something before committing a serious amount of time or money.
That's a pretty good trade.
