Aura Pro: I Traced the Takeover Script Before Running It — the Actual 13-Step Pipeline

What I was actually evaluating

I was not evaluating an app idea. I was evaluating a takeover pipeline — the piece that decides whether a $299.99 Android app is a finished product or an afternoon of unfinished Console work.

Aura Pro sells you a complete AI prompt-generation Android app. You take it over on your own Google Play Console with your Developer API key, then run it. The claim is that a single command handles everything the Play Developer API permits, and only 6 manual Console steps remain.

I wanted to know what that command actually does before I pointed it at a service account. So I traced it.

The pipeline, as the docs describe it

Running play_takeover.py --key key.json walks this order:

  1. Authenticate with the service account JSON key against the Play Developer API.
  2. Create or reuse the app record in your Play Console account.
  3. Upload the APK (release track, not internal test — this is a real listing).
  4. Build the store listing, auto-filled from the app's own content rather than hand-typed.
  5. Upload store images (feature graphic, screenshots, icon).
  6. Create the in-app products.
  7. Create the subscription products — com.auraprompt.app.premium_monthly and com.auraprompt.app.premium_annual.
  8. Activate the release track so the products attach to the track.
  9. Submit for publishing.

That is the API-side work. It is the part with no UI, no drag-and-drop, and no way to see progress except in logs. That is the part worth automating, and it is exactly what the script does.

The 6 steps that are left on purpose

These cannot be automated, not because nobody tried, but because Google's policy surface requires a human account in the loop:

  1. Data Safety declaration — you attest to what the app collects.
  2. Content rating questionnaire.
  3. Category and contact details.
  4. Pricing for each subscription product.
  5. Review submission — you click submit.
  6. Push notification sender ID, if you want them.

Notice what is missing from that list: APK upload, listing copy, screenshots, products, track activation. All of it moved to the script. That is the real value proposition, and it is measurable.

The part I checked twice: demo mode

isDemo=true ships in the demo APK and unlocks all premium features — no paywall, no API key. The point of that is not generosity, it is verifiability. You install the demo on a physical phone, click through all 11 categories (Build, Write, Design, Learn, Marketing, Business, Personal, Finance, Legal, Debug, Analysis), and confirm nothing is blank before you spend money.

After you take over and pay, you rebuild with isDemo=false and billing switches on. BillingClient 6.2.0 is already wired. Aptoide billing was removed, so there is exactly one billing path to configure.

What I would still verify myself

  • The service account needs to be invited into your Play Console with the right role before the API calls succeed. README-TAKOVER.md covers it, but it is a prerequisite, not an optional step.
  • The listing images come from the app's own content. Check them in a real Console preview — auto-generated is not the same as good.
  • The 6 manual steps are documented in README-PLAY-SETUP.md, but they are still your clicks.

Where to look

Bottom line

The app itself is ordinary. The pipeline is the product: a working BillingClient integration, 11 offline categories that need no API key, and a script that removes the entire API-side workload. If you are buying it for the app, you overpaid. If you are buying it to skip the Console grind, the demo lets you verify that before you hand over money.

I am not affiliated with Aura Pro. I traced the docs and the demo page; I did not run the takeover on a live account.
