Aura Pro Takeover: What the Play API Does and the Six Steps It Never Will

Most "buy this app and put it on Google Play" offers stop at the APK. You get a file, a vague README, and then you discover that uploading it is roughly 5% of the work. The rest is Console configuration nobody warned you about — and if you get it wrong, Google rejects the app and you start over.

Aura Pro is a complete Android AI prompt-generation app ($299.99) that ships with a takeover script, play_takeover.py, wired to the Play Developer API. Before walking through what it does, here is the honest split: what the API can do, and what it can never do.

What the Play Developer API actually handles

Google's androidpublisher API (v3) is real and stable, and the script drives it end to end:

  • APK upload — edits.apks.upload, against a signed release APK
  • Store listing — edits.listings.patch, auto-filled from the app's own content
  • Store images — feature graphics and screenshots
  • In-app products — edits.inappproducts.create
  • Subscription products — edits.products.create for recurring billing
  • Track activation — edits.tracks.update (internal, closed, production)
  • Commit — edits.commit, the step people forget and then wonder why nothing happened

Everything is wrapped in a single edit session, so a failure mid-run doesn't leave a half-uploaded app in the Console.

The 6 steps the API will never do

These are hard limits of the API, not missing features:

  1. Data Safety form — you must declare exactly what the app collects, in Google's own UI
  2. Content rating questionnaire — the IARC flow is manual
  3. Category selection — chosen by you in the Console
  4. Pricing setup — base plan and country pricing
  5. Review submission — pressing the button that actually submits for review
  6. Push notification setup — FCM configuration lives outside the API

The buyer docs (README-TAKOVER.md and README-PLAY-SETUP.md) walk through each one, including Google Cloud project setup, service account creation, and the Play Console invite — because the service account can't invite itself.

Prep the account before you buy

The number one cause of a failed takeover is a service account with no access. Do this first:

  • Create the Google Cloud project and enable Play Android Developer API
  • Create the service account and download the JSON key
  • Invite that service account email into the Play Console (Account permissions, Invite user) — this step is invisible until you hit a 401
  • Confirm the app package name com.auraprompt.app is available

Test before you pay

The demo APK ships with isDemo=true, which unlocks every premium feature — no paywall, no API key required. Install it, run through all 11 categories (Build, Write, Design, Learn, Marketing, Business, Personal, Finance, Legal, Debug, Analysis), and verify the UI actually works.

After you take over and pay, rebuild with isDemo=false and the Google Play Billing integration (BillingClient 6.2.0) goes live with com.auraprompt.app.premium_monthly and com.auraprompt.app.premium_annual.

There's also an interactive prompt generator on the product page you can try in the browser — same logic that runs on-device, no install needed.

Package contents

  • app-release.apk — signed, 3.7 MB, all premium features unlocked for testing
  • play_takeover.py — full API-driven takeover
  • upload_to_play.py — lighter path if you only want APK upload plus optional product creation
  • README-TAKOVER.md and README-PLAY-SETUP.md — setup, troubleshooting, signing key notes
  • Optional: aura-release.keystore so you can sign future updates without rebuilding from source
