What I Built
I built HustleMate AI, an AI-powered writing assistant designed to help freelancers, students, content creators, and small business owners with their daily work.
Running a side hustle often requires writing product descriptions, social media captions, client emails, and business proposals. These tasks take time, especially for people who are just starting out.
HustleMate AI aims to make these tasks easier by using AI to help users create written content from simple prompts.
The goal is to save time, improve productivity, and make AI-powered writing assistance more accessible. In the future, it could become a useful tool for freelancers and small businesses looking for an affordable productivity solution.

The project is built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with open-source AI technology for its text-generation features.
How I Built It
I built HustleMate AI using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Hugging Face Transformers.js, and the SmolLM2-360M-Instruct open-weight model.
- HTML provides the structure of the website.
- CSS makes the interface clean and user-friendly.
- JavaScript handles user interactions and AI functionality.
- Hugging Face Transformers.js allows supported machine-learning models to run in the browser.
- SmolLM2-360M-Instruct is the open-weight language model used for text generation.
The idea was to create a practical project where AI is an important part of the user experience, rather than just building a normal website.
Users can enter a prompt for a writing task and use the generated content as a starting point for their work.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation matters because AI tools should be accessible to people who want to learn, experiment, and build useful products.
For someone starting a side hustle, expensive subscriptions and API costs can become a challenge. Open-weight models provide more flexibility to developers and can help reduce dependence on paid AI APIs.
The main benefits are:
- Cost flexibility: Developers can experiment with open-weight models without making a paid proprietary API the core of the application.
- More control: Developers can explore different models and adapt their projects as requirements change.
- Privacy potential: Running inference in the browser can reduce the need to send prompts to an external AI service, depending on how the application is implemented.
- Learning opportunities: Building with open-source tools helps me understand how AI works in a real-world application.
- Community collaboration: Other developers can explore the code, suggest improvements, and contribute new features.
As a student developer, this project helped me explore how open-source AI can be used to solve everyday problems.
Open innovation gives developers the freedom to experiment, learn, and build without depending entirely on a single provider.

My First User
My next goal is to get feedback from a freelancer or small business owner who can try HustleMate AI for real work.
I want to understand whether it saves time, whether the generated content is useful, and what features users would like to see next.
I will add genuine user feedback here after someone has tested the project.
Prize Categories
My submission focuses on the Side Hustle theme and the use of open-source AI to build a practical productivity tool.
I will check the official challenge rules before selecting any additional partner prize categories.
