Google's October 2026 Play updates — Play Store 53.8 and Play Services 26.42, both dated October 26 — bring five changes worth knowing. Ask Play, the AI helper for finding apps, can now answer with videos that carry citations and timestamps, so you can jump to the relevant part before installing. Playbacks, inside the Sidekick in-game overlay, saves the last 30 seconds of gameplay locally, so a great moment is kept even if you forgot to record. Play Shorts now get shareable links that anyone can open, on Android or elsewhere, without needing the app. On the quieter side, Play Services adds phone pairing for Android XR glasses and background pairing for wireless earbuds that does not disturb notifications or audio. Google has published no compatibility list for either pairing feature, and rollouts are staged — an updated phone does not guarantee every feature on day one. Check your versions under Play Settings > About and Settings > Apps > Google Play services, and give staged features a few days.
