The Shopify CRO Checklist Every Store Owner Should Run Before Spending More on Ads

You're running ads. Your SEO is finally paying off. Visitors show up every day — and sales still don't match the traffic.

That's not a traffic problem. It's a conversion problem, and it's usually fixable faster than you'd think.

Here's the math that matters: a store converting at 1% needs to double its traffic to double sales. A store converting at 2% doubles sales with the exact same traffic. That's the entire case for running a CRO checklist before increasing ad spend — you get more out of the visitors you're already paying for.

Three places to start today:

  1. Your funnel data. Pull Sessions → Product Views → Add to Cart → Checkout → Completed Checkout from Shopify Analytics. Whichever step has the steepest drop-off is where your biggest leak is. 2.** Your own checkout, on your phone.** Go through it as a stranger would. Count the taps. More than 4–5 steps is usually too many.
  2. Your top product page. Read it cold. Would someone with zero brand familiarity trust it enough to enter card details?

These three checks alone usually surface the highest-impact fix in under 20 minutes.
