Introduction
I have chosen this topic to spotlight on one of the most technological trends these days known as AI (Artificial Intelligent). Therefore, I will discuss some of the most important aspects related to AI in which it will help in a better understanding of Artificial Intelligent and both its advantages and disadvantages to be able to protect ourselves from the upcoming technological trend.
Meaning of artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the combination of two words artificial + intelligence. Where artificial means ‘not real’ or ‘natural’ and by intelligence means ‘the ability to reason, to trigger new thoughts, to perceive and learn’. Artificial intelligence can be defined that area of computer science that mainly focus on the making on such kind of intelligent machines that work and give reactions same like human beings. It is combination of many activities which includes for designing the artificial in computers that are like-recognizing the speech, learning, planning and solving the problem. When any system adapts itself according to situation in any environment is called intelligent. In other words, it can be defined as programming such machines which can think and act with some level of human intelligence is known as artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can be defined as efficiently use of limited resources. So artificial intelligence can be defined as making computer programs to solve complex problems same like as human solve the problems. So it is also divided into two parts one is to solving complex problems by the machine and second is same like human beings. The term artificial intelligence is also used to describe a property of machines or programs: the intelligence that the system demonstrates. Artificial intelligence is combination of science and engineering for making the machines which behaves in intelligent manner. In it many fields are combined like philosophy, psychology and computer science.
Strong AI and Weak AI
1. Strong AI
The principle behind Strong AI is that the machines could be
made to think or in other words could represent human minds in the future. Thus Strong AI claims that in nearfuture we will be surrounded by such kinds of machinewhich can completely works like human being and machine could have human level intelligence. If that is the case, those machines will have the ability to reason, think and do all functions that a human is capable of doing. Current research is nowhere near creating strong AI, and a lively debate is ongoing as to whether this is even possible .
2. Weak AI
The principle behind Weak AI is simply the fact that machines can be made to act as if they are intelligent. Weak AI simply states that thinking like features can be easily added to computer to make them more useful tools and this already started to happen. For example, when a human player plays chess against a computer, the human player may feel as if the computer is actually making impressive moves. But the chess application is not thinking and planning at all. All the moves it makes are previously fed in to the computer by a human and that is how it is ensured that the software will make the right moves at the right times.More examples of Weak AI are witness expert systems,drive by wires cars and speech recognisation systems
Advantages and Disadvantages of AI
One of the major advantages of artificial intelligence is
that its decisions are based on facts rather than
emotions. Even after our utmost efforts, it is a wellknown fact that human decisions are always affected in a negative way by our emotions
Unlike humans, machines with artificial intelligence do
not need any sleep, thus overcoming the inherent
disadvantage of tiredness in humansEasier spreading of knowledge. Once an artificial mind
is trained for something, it can be very easily copied to
the others reducing the time wasted in otherwise passing on
knowledge to other humans through trainingLack of creativity in responses
Inability to explain the logic and reasoning behind a
certain decisionCurrent development is at a stage where the AI cannot
know when there is no solution to a particular problemAny malfunctioning can lead to the AI producing
wrong solutions and since it cannot explain the
reasoning behind its answer, blind reliance on AI can
lead to problemsLack of common sense in reasoning can also cause
major problemsIt can be used to cause mass scale destruction if given
in the wrong hands
All this being said, one of the most concerning problem
with the development of AI is that it will soon start
substituting humans in every field thus causing a high rate of
unemployment, which would lead to depression, crime and
poverty. Also, there are some fields that require the human
touch and there is a growing sense of belief that machines
will quite possibly never be able to replace humans. The
caring behavior of nurses in hospitals is one example of a
job that humans feel machines will never be able to do
justice to.
The future of AI
It is true that many experts are doing research in the field of Artificial intelligence and in future machines will become
more and more powerful. But anything which has advantages
there exist disadvantages also so there can be ethical issues
related to machines. For example, if any machine is made for
very sensitive work and did any mistake than who will be
responsible. If an AI program is made for diagnosis purpose
and it gives the wrong answer, then we cannot claim the
doctor for it. So for it policy will have to make. And in future such kind of machines will be developed which will
communicate with us same like the human and will be able to
guess what should be done in which situation.
Conclusion
The computing world has a lot to gain or benefits from
various AI approaches. Their ability to learn by example
makes them very flexible and powerful. Furthermore there is
no need to devise an algorithm in order to perform a specific
task i.e. there is no need to understand the internal
mechanisms of that task. They are also very well suited for
real time systems because of their fast response and
computational times which are due to their parallel
architecture. The goal of artificial intelligence is to create
computers whose intelligence equals or surpasses humans.
Achieving this goal is the famous “AI problem from last
decade researchers are trying to close the gap between
human intelligence and artificial intelligence.
