A Simple Full Moon Ritual for Grounding and Intention Setting

What You’ll Need to Prepare

  • A quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for 20–30 minutes.

  • A candle (white or silver is ideal), a lighter or matches, and a small bowl of water.

  • Pen and paper for writing down your intentions.

Cleansing Your Space and Yourself

  • Open a window or door to let fresh air in. Light a bundle of dried sage or rosemary and let the smoke drift around the room while setting a clear intention to release stagnant energy.

  • If you don’t have smoke cleansing materials, simply sprinkle a few drops of salted water around the perimeter of your space while saying out loud: “This space is cleansed and protected.”

  • Wash your hands with cool water, then close your eyes and take three deep, slow breaths to center yourself.

Creating Your Ritual Altar

  • Place your candle in the center of a small table or flat surface. Set the bowl of water to the left and your pen and paper to the right.

  • If you have Crystals (clear quartz, moonstone, or selenite), arrange them in a semicircle around the candle. A small mirror can also be placed behind the candle to reflect the flame and lunar energy.

  • Say a simple blessing: “I welcome the light of the full moon into my altar. May this space hold my intentions with clarity and peace.”

Lighting the Candle and Setting Intentions

  • Light the candle while focusing on the flame. Visualize the moon’s energy pouring down through the top of your head and filling your entire body with calm silver light.

  • Take your pen and paper and write down three specific, positive intentions for the next lunar cycle. Phrase them as if they are already true (e.g., “I am surrounded by supportive friends” instead of “I want more friends”).

  • Hold the paper in both hands over the candle flame (carefully, not touching the fire) and say: “Under this full moon, I release these intentions to the universe. So it is, and so it shall be.”

Releasing What No Longer Serves You

  • On a separate piece of paper, write down one thing you are ready to let go of—a fear, a habit, or a negative thought pattern.

  • Fold the paper tightly and place it in the bowl of water. As the ink runs, imagine the old energy dissolving. Say: “I release this with love and gratitude. It no longer has power over me.”

  • After the ritual, safely tear up the paper and throw it away. Flush the water down the toilet or pour it into the earth away from your home.

Closing the Ritual and Grounding

  • Extinguish the candle using a snuffer or by wetting your fingertips and
