We need to migrate 2,000 users after an acquisition. What would your migration plan look like?

For an acquisition involving 2,000 Microsoft 365 users, the migration should be treated as a business transformation project rather than a simple data transfer. The first priority is understanding the source environment, including mailboxes, OneDrive storage, SharePoint sites, permissions, and compliance requirements.

Using the SysInfo Microsoft 365 Tenant to Tenant Migration Tool, I would conduct a pilot migration and then implement a phased migration strategy. Data would be pre-staged wherever possible, allowing the majority of mailbox and file content to be transferred before the actual cutover date. Users would be migrated in waves based on business functions and operational dependencies.

Incremental synchronization would run throughout the project to keep destination data current. Once validation is complete, a controlled domain cutover would be performed, followed by user verification and support. This strategy minimizes downtime, reduces business risk, and ensures continuity across all departments while integrating the acquired organization into the primary tenant.
