LangSteps v1.1.0: 45 New Lessons Across Go, SQL, and C# / ASP.NET Core
Learning to program becomes easier when concepts are organized into a clear progression, supported by examples and opportunities to practice.
That's the idea behind LangSteps, my open-source programming education project.
Today, I'm sharing the release of LangSteps v1.1.0, which expands the platform from seven learning paths to ten and introduces 45 new guided lessons.
Three New Learning Paths
1. Go Mastery
The new Go curriculum contains 15 lessons, exploring topics such as:
- Go syntax and foundational language concepts
- Collections, methods and interfaces
- Error handling
- Goroutines and channels
- Concurrency and context
- Testing
- HTTP services
The curriculum introduces concepts with practical examples and exercises.
2. SQL Mastery
The SQL curriculum adds another 15 lessons focused on PostgreSQL-oriented SQL.
Topics include:
- SQL fundamentals and table design
- SELECT queries and filtering
- JOIN operations
- Aggregations and grouping
- Common table expressions
- Window functions
- Transactions
- Indexing and performance
- Secure parameter binding
These lessons aim to help learners develop a better understanding of relational databases and practical query writing.
3. C# 13 / .NET 9 / ASP.NET Core
The third addition introduces 15 lessons covering modern C# and Microsoft's .NET development ecosystem.
Topics include C# language features, records, LINQ, asynchronous programming, cancellation, dependency injection, Minimal APIs, model binding, security and testing.
A More Consistent Learning Experience
These new paths also introduce a set of common learning features:
Lesson search: Find specific programming concepts without manually browsing every lesson.
Category filtering: Narrow lessons to a relevant topic area.
Practical examples: Explore code examples alongside explanations and exercises.
Copyable code: Copy snippets for experimentation in your own development environment.
Local progress tracking: Learning progress is saved in your browser, without requiring a hosted progress database.
Deep links: Navigate directly to individual lessons.
Improvements Behind the Scenes
The v1.1.0 release isn't limited to educational content.
It also includes improvements to the project's engineering foundations.
The homepage now links to the three new learning paths, and the frontend curriculum catalog is synchronized with the optional ASP.NET Core backend catalog.
The GitHub Pages service-worker cache configuration has been updated for the expanded curricula.
Automated testing now covers additional Node, TypeScript and ASP.NET Core functionality.
The optional API also has improved safeguards, including restricted browser CORS origins and removal of unauthenticated feedback retrieval.
An Important Technical Distinction
LangSteps is hosted as a static website through GitHub Pages.
The Go, SQL and C# examples are educational material. They are not currently executed or compiled through a secure hosted code runner.
Learners can copy examples and practice using their own development tools.
The optional ASP.NET Core backend requires separate hosting and is not part of the static GitHub Pages deployment.
Explore All 10 Learning Paths
With v1.1.0, LangSteps includes:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, TypeScript, Rust, Go, SQL and C# / ASP.NET Core.
The objective is to continue growing LangSteps into a useful, structured resource for learning modern programming.
