There are so many Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) out there. But you of course do not need all of those. But one or two might not be enough.
These are some of the most popular IDEs:
Cursor
VS Code
Windsurf
Pycharm
Antigravity
Webstorm
Trae
Vim
Zed
Intellij IDEA
For web development IDEs, we'll have a deep dive later in this (that is the main content), but for other types of coding, here you go:
Lightweight, High-Speed & Terminal:
Zed
Sublime Text
Vim
C/C++ and high performance:
CLion
No idea im not a C programmer sorry C programmers :(
General purpose and web development:
VS Code
Webstorm
Java:
- Intellij IDEA
AI-asissted development:
Cursor
Antigravity
Trae
For web developers:
If you are a new developer, beginner, or still dont understand concepts well, use VS Code for maximum learning. It is simple, straightforward and easy to use. Plus there is no AI to interrupt you with its suggestions (they are often bad).
If you understand well, switch to Cursor. You get AI suggestions there, and now as you underatand well, you know if it is writing the correct code and speeding your coding, or giving useless suggestions and wasting your time. You can also ask questions to AI in the sidebar.
Cursor credits will burn quick. Dont use it for general chats, even general coding chats, as that is how my month 1 credits burnt in like 2 days.
But as you run out of cursor credits, you have Antigravity IDE and Trae. Both have generous free tier. Obviously coding is free on all these IDEs, i am talking about AI credits. Here credits refresh quicker than Cursor's monthly.
In Trae you can even make your own customized agent for whatever task you want.
I personally use Cursor the most. The reason is its UI, it fits me the best, and usually the AI suggestions arent there so nothing to be annoyed by. If i need AI suggestions i switch to Antigravity or Trae.
That's it fellas. Do comment your rating of this article, as it is my first time writing. See you guys in the next one.
