SARAH 1.0.4: run receipts, chat branching, and one search across everything

SARAH 1.0.4 is out today. This release is mostly about trust — being able to see what the app actually did on your machine, and being able to find things again afterwards.

Run receipts

Every run now leaves a card you can open. It shows which files were read, which were changed, how many tool calls it took, the token count, the cost, and how long it ran. Instead of trusting a chat transcript, you get a record you can actually inspect.

Alongside it there's an Explain this run button, which writes a plain-English summary of the run: what it read, what it changed, and why.

One search across everything

One search box, with Cmd/Ctrl+K, covers project files, chats, notes, memory, runs and skills. It skips the files group on FTP projects, since those files aren't local.

Chat branching

You can fork a conversation from any message. No more scrolling back up and editing an old prompt, or losing the thread you liked.

Notes that link

Project notes now understand [[wiki links]], and there's a backlinks endpoint, so notes can behave like a small wiki.

Background runs

If you close the window mid-task, the turn keeps running and its output is still there when you come back.

MCP servers

MCP servers can be added in Settings, and you can sign in from there when a server needs OAuth. Tokens are stored with PKCE.

Response quality

Tool markup is now stripped from replies, so you stop getting raw function-call debris in answers. When the turn runs out of rounds, it summarises what it found rather than stopping mid-sentence.

Smaller things

  • Cost meter: per-message and per-session, plus a breakdown of which model was the expensive part.
  • A local/cloud badge, so you can see at a glance whether you're on Ollama or a paid API.
  • Project memory got clearer scopes and easier editing of remembered facts.
  • Chat messages survive project switching and window close.
  • Diff-first writes: approval prompts now show the diff before they let a write through.

Getting it

Free and Premium builds for Linux and Windows:

SHA-256 hashes are published with the version feed, and updates verify the hash and the ed25519 feed signature before installing anything.

One honest note: the custom-theme fix for chat bubbles didn't make it into this build. If you set a custom theme, assistant bubbles still use their hardcoded colours. That's queued for the next one.
