Your circumstances might be different to mine but I'm on a software development bootcamp alongside other responsibilities including childcare... it's pretty challenging trying to move into the tech industry when you're up against time constraints and other stressors.
If you're in a similar boat, you've probably got:
- Limited time for learning
- Information overload
- The 'balancing theory with practice' dilemma
- The challenge of maintaining motivation
- Imposter syndrome
Bite-sized learning
One approach is to break the problem down into smaller chunks, which incidentally is killing two birds with one stone as it's a skill that you'll need to master to become a success in most tech roles.
I haven't mastered this bite-sized approach yet myself but writing articles to help others is embedding it further.
A great book I return to for inspiration is Atomic Habits by James Clear. I like the idea of building slowly on top of existing routines and habits so you reduce the procrastination.
One way to approach learning if you're time-poor
15-30 minute focused learning sessions: use the Pomodoro technique or just a timer.
Start with one of these sessions a day as a minimum to keep your learning sustainable
Approach one concept at a time: this motivates you and feels productive
Current article series
I'm starting to write articles where I break down a larger topic. I'm not an expert so feel free to point out any missing/useful info but this might help someone else who is in a similar conundrum.
