Ep-2: Methods of reading Research Paper & summarizing findings

Research is a very slow process from crafting till publishing. It needs only patience and perseverance. If you know the process of doing it, it should take 4–5 months approx (still depends on the person).

Method of reading papers from Literature:

Well, you can read papers in two ways (surely you may have your own reading process preferences).

  • In depth mode: With this, it is mainly focused on understanding a paper completely and implementing what authors have done in their own research. It is about reading the paper very thoroughly from first to last and highlighting every significant aspect. It can take maybe 3 to 4 hours.

  • Birds Eye View Mode: This is about not reading thoroughly but only focusing on abstracts, figures, tables, samples, discussions and conclusions in a brief manner. It may take 15-20 minutes.

Suppose you're reading 70 papers, maybe you can read 5-6 papers thoroughly and remaining majority in bird's eye view.

Ways to summarize the findings from literature review:

You might maintain a excel sheet where you add all the summary of the papers. Which may help you while writing review paper.
