How to Make an Autumn Lock Screen on a Samsung Galaxy Phone: Photos, Video, Weather Effects and Dynamic Lock Screen

Autumn is the easiest season to photograph: orange leaves, low sun, foggy mornings. Your Galaxy phone gives you several ways to put those shots on the Lock screen, from a single photo to a short video clip, plus Galaxy AI options that animate the weather. This guide follows Samsung's own support page. Available screens and settings can vary by carrier, software version and model.

Before you start

You'll need a Lock screen set up to use these features. Samsung also notes that Galaxy AI wallpapers are on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or higher, and that Google's policy restricts Generative Wallpaper for account users under 13.

Set an autumn photo on the Lock screen

  1. Touch and hold your Lock screen, then enter your security credentials.
  2. Tap Wallpapers in the top left corner.
  3. Tap Gallery and select your picture. Tap Done to preview it.
  4. Drag to position it and pinch to zoom. Samsung recommends not cropping it beforehand, since it's cropped to fit.
  5. On One UI 6.1 or higher, tap Frame or Effect and swipe through the options. Older versions offer Filter instead.
  6. Tap Done in the top right corner.

Use a short video instead

Falling leaves look even better moving.

  1. Touch and hold the Lock screen and enter your credentials.
  2. Tap Wallpapers, then Gallery, and select a video. Tap Done.
  3. Tap Trim to adjust the length with the slider, and tap Play to check it.
  4. Tap Done, then Done in the top right corner.

Animate it with Weather effects

Samsung's Photo ambient feature animates the Lock screen with your area's current weather, such as raindrops when it's raining. It uses your default location in the Weather app and works best with photos taken outdoors during the day, which suits most autumn shots.

  1. Open Settings, then tap Wallpaper and style.
  2. Tap Change wallpapers, then Weather under Create with AI.
  3. Tap Try now and turn Local Weather on when prompted. Allow the permissions.
  4. Choose a picture from your Gallery, edit it, then tap Done.

Let Dynamic Lock screen rotate images

Under Wallpaper services, Samsung offers Dynamic Lock screen, which changes the Lock screen image every time you turn on the screen. You can download image packs that feature plants, animals, food and artwork. A nature pack is an easy autumn mood.

Match the Home screen

  1. Touch and hold a Home screen, then tap Wallpaper and style.
  2. Tap Change wallpapers, then Gallery, and pick a photo or video.
  3. Choose Lock screen, Home screen or both, then tap Next, adjust, and tap Done.

Tips for fall photos

  • Shoot vertically. Less cropping, better framing.
  • Keep the top third calm. That's where the clock sits.
  • Pick warm, mid-tone images. Very bright sky can make the clock hard to read.

Troubleshooting

  • No Weather option: it needs One UI 6.1 or higher on a compatible device; update your phone.
  • Video won't set: trim it shorter and try again.
  • Lock screen features missing: set up a Lock screen first.
