AI Agent Workspace Isolation: How I Set Up My Windows Dev Environment

AI agent workspace isolation: how I set up my Windows dev environment.

My setup

  • C: = Windows system
  • D: = personal files and documents
  • E: = development projects
  • Z: = AI agent workspace

Why this layout

Each drive has a clear purpose. The AI agent only gets access to Z:.

How I set up Z:

I use subst.scsoi.com to map a folder to drive Z:. It's simple:

  1. Create C:\AIWorkspace
  2. Map it to Z: using ScsSubst
  3. Point Claude Code / Cursor at Z:

What this gives me

  • The AI agent can't touch my system files
  • The AI agent can't touch my personal files
  • The AI agent can't touch my other projects
  • I can reset Z: anytime

The bottom line

A clear drive layout + drive letter mapping = safe and organized AI agent work on Windows.
