AI agent workspace isolation: why I prefer drive letters over folders.
The problem with folders
When you point an AI agent at a folder, it's easy for it to wander into subfolders and touch things it shouldn't.
Why drive letters are better
A drive letter is a clear boundary. The agent can see the whole drive, but it's obvious where it starts and ends.
My setup
- C: = system
- D: = personal files
- Z: = AI agent workspace
The AI agent only gets Z:. It can't see C: or D:.
The tool
I use subst.scsoi.com to map the AI workspace folder to drive Z:. Simple, lightweight, one-time purchase.
The bottom line
Drive letters give you clear OS-level boundaries. That's why I prefer them over just pointing the agent at a folder.
