Mount iCloud Drive as a Windows Drive Letter for 5.5

iCloud Drive Without the Sync App

iCloud Drive is Apple's cloud storage that ships free with every Apple ID. 5 GB free, integrated with macOS and iOS, native apps across the Apple ecosystem. The iCloud desktop sync app works on Mac, but Windows users only get a partial sync that eats your local disk and only mirrors what fits on your machine.

Mount iCloud Drive as a Windows drive letter and you skip the partial sync. I: drive. Open files in any app, edit in place, save back. No sync, no cache, no upload button.

The WebDAV Trick

iCloud Drive ships native WebDAV support on every Apple ID, including the free 5 GB tier. The endpoint is https://www.icloud.com/dav/. Username: your Apple ID email. Password: an app-specific password from the Apple ID security settings (not your account password).

ScsDriver is a one-time fee:

  • Monthly: $1.5 (cancel any time)
  • Yearly: $5.5
  • Lifetime: $5.5 (single payment, yours forever)

That is not a typo. The lifetime plan costs the same as the yearly plan.

Mount I: in 60 Seconds

  1. Log in to appleid.apple.com. Go to Sign-In and Security -> App-Specific Passwords. Generate a password for "ScsDriver".
  2. Install ScsDriver and open it.
  3. Server: https://www.icloud.com/dav/
  4. Username: your Apple ID email. Password: the app-specific password.
  5. Pick a drive letter. I: is the obvious choice.
  6. Click Connect. iCloud Drive is now I:.

What Works on I:

  • Open 1 GB Pages documents from I: in Microsoft Word. Edit in place, save back. No download, no upload.
  • Mount iCloud Drive alongside OneDrive, Dropbox, or any other WebDAV mount. ScsDriver supports multiple drives at once.
  • Cross-platform: if you are a Windows user with a Mac, you can mount your Mac's iCloud Drive as I: on your Windows machine and access the same files from both.
  • iCloud's free tier gives you 5 GB. Mount that as I: drive and you have 5 GB of streaming cloud storage for free. That is enough for 2,500 photos, 50 hours of compressed video, or 1 year of monthly backups.

Why iCloud Drive, Not Dropbox

Dropbox is 9.99 USD per 100 GB per month. iCloud Drive is 0.99 USD per 50 GB per month with the same WebDAV support, plus a 5 GB free tier that every Apple ID already has. iCloud Drive's paid plans start at 0.99 USD per month for 50 GB, 2.99 USD per month for 200 GB, and 9.99 USD per month for 2 TB.

Pair iCloud Drive with ScsDriver at 5.5 USD lifetime, and you have a working cloud drive for 6.49 USD once, total. That is less than a single month of Dropbox Plus.

Pricing Math

The monthly ScsDriver plan is $1.5. After 4 months you have paid $6. The lifetime plan is $5.5. From month 5 onward, the lifetime plan is free.

If you keep the tool for 6 months, lifetime saves you 50 cents per month. Over 5 years, lifetime saves you 90 dollars.

Apple Ecosystem Bonus

iCloud Drive is the cloud storage platform that ships free with every Apple ID, including the 5 GB free tier. Mounting iCloud Drive as a WebDAV drive preserves the Apple ecosystem integration because files sync back to your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Edit a Pages document on I: drive from Windows, and the change appears on your Mac within seconds.

A Final Note

iCloud Drive is the cloud storage platform that ships WebDAV out of the box on every Apple ID, including the free 5 GB tier. No gateway, no proxy, no custom WAF rule. Just the URL, your Apple ID, an app-specific password, and ScsDriver. Mount your iCloud Drive today: https://drive.scsoi.com/
