Mount Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage as a Windows Drive for 5.5

Wasabi Without the Sync App

Wasabi is 6.99 USD per terabyte per month with no egress fees. It is one of the cheapest S3-compatible object stores that does not punish you for downloading your own files. The Wasabi sync app works, but it requires a local mirror.

Mount Wasabi as a Windows drive letter and you skip the mirror. W: drive. Open files in any app, edit in place, save back. No sync, no cache, no upload button.

Mount W: in 60 Seconds

  1. Create a Wasabi bucket. Note the region endpoint (s3.us-east-1.wasabisys.com, s3.eu-central-1.wasabisys.com, etc).
  2. Generate an access key and secret in the Wasabi console.
  3. Install ScsDriver and open it.
  4. Server: your Wasabi WebDAV gateway URL (Wasabi does not ship native WebDAV; pair it with MinIO with WebDAV gateway enabled, or use a Cloudflare Worker in front of the bucket).
  5. Username and password: from your access key.
  6. Pick a drive letter. W: is the obvious choice.
  7. Click Connect. Wasabi is now W:.

What Works on W:

  • Stream 4K raw video files in Premiere Pro without downloading first.
  • Mount multiple Wasabi buckets at the same time. W:, X:, Y:, Z: all at once.
  • Sleep and hibernation: ScsDriver keeps the WebDAV connection alive across power state changes.
  • No egress fees. Read your bucket 100 times, pay the same as reading it once. That is Wasabi's pricing model.
  • Cold storage, warm access. Wasabi is 6.99 USD/TB/month. The mount tool is 5.5 USD lifetime.

Pricing

ScsDriver is a one-time fee:

  • Monthly: $1.5 (cancel any time)
  • Yearly: $5.5
  • Lifetime: $5.5 (single payment, yours forever)

That is not a typo. The lifetime plan costs the same as the yearly plan.

If you keep the tool for 6 months, lifetime saves you 50 cents per month. Over 5 years, lifetime saves you 90 dollars.

Why Wasabi, Not B2 or S3

Backblaze B2 is 6 USD per TB but charges for downloads. S3 is 23 USD per TB. Wasabi is 6.99 USD per TB with no egress. For cold storage you actually want to read, Wasabi is the cheapest of the three.

Pair Wasabi with ScsDriver at 5.5 USD lifetime, and you have a working cloud drive for the price of one coffee per terabyte per month. That is cheaper than a local hard drive after year 2.

The MinIO Trick

If you do not want to set up a Cloudflare Worker, run MinIO on a small VPS (5 USD/month) with the WebDAV gateway flag enabled, and point Wasabi as the backend. MinIO proxies WebDAV to S3-compatible storage including Wasabi. ScsDriver talks to MinIO. MinIO talks to Wasabi. You get W: drive for less than a Netflix subscription.

A Final Note

Wasabi is the only object storage where egress is free. That makes it perfect for a WebDAV mount: the entire point of a mount is that the cloud drive is read-heavy. Mount your Wasabi today: https://drive.scsoi.com/
