Socket Connections

I don't understand socket connections. Seems basic but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around them.

I'd like to clarify a bit first! Do you mean:

• socket as in WebSocket
• socket as in network socket
• socket as in Unix domain socket

... or some other socket?

Not sure. Either WebSocket or network socket I think. Something, something, direct communication between two systems.
