Claude only got rupee pricing recently, and the tiers above Pro are steep in local terms: Claude Max runs at ₹11,999 a month for the lower tier and ₹23,999 a month for the higher one, CNBC-TV18 reported. Claude Pro's annual plan is billed ₹24,000 up front, which is where the ₹2,000 monthly figure comes from.

Do you need to pay for either one?
Often, no. Both have free tiers that are genuinely usable for occasional questions, and the entry tiers below the flagship plans exist precisely because most people do not need the flagship.
The honest test is whether you hit limits. If you are being cut off mid-task more than once a week, the subscription pays for itself in recovered time. If you are not, the free tier plus a second free assistant covers more ground than one paid plan does.
What about running both?
This is what a lot of heavy users actually do, and at $20 each it is the same as one mid-tier tool in most software budgets.
The split that works: Claude for the work that has to be right and has to hold a lot of context at once, ChatGPT for the work that has to be fast and varied. If you are choosing a single one and your job title contains the word engineer, choose Claude. Otherwise, choose ChatGPT.

Neither the price nor the capability is the constraint for a regulated Indian buyer. Data residency is.
