How I Finally Found Out Who Unfollowed Me on Instagram (Without Giving My Password to Anyone)

Instagram never tells you who unfollowed you. One day the number just drops, and you're left guessing. I didn't want to hand my password to some random tracker app, so I went the other way — my own official Instagram export.

Here's exactly what I did.

First, I downloaded my export. In the Instagram app, I went to Settings, then Accounts Center, then “Your information and permissions” and “Export your information.” I picked “Export to device,” selected only “Followers and following,” set the date range to “All time,” and chose JSON. When the ZIP was ready, I downloaded it. Don't unzip it — just keep it as it is.

Then I opened https://igunfollowed.com/ and dropped the ZIP in. That's it. No login, no password, no signup. The site says the file is read in your own browser, so nothing leaves your device. That was the main reason I trusted it.

On the results page, I opened the Following tab. Right above the list, next to the search box, there are three buttons: A–Z, Z–A, and Recent. I clicked Recent, and my most recently followed accounts came to the top. Under each name it also shows a date, like “Followed Jun 15, 2025.” There's no “Newest first” dropdown on the site — Recent is the button that does the date sort.

If you only want to check one person, just type their name in the search box. On the “Not back” tab you can also mark people as reviewed, ignore them, or download the whole list as a CSV.

Two things you should know before you try it. One, the export is only a snapshot from the day you made it. If someone unfollows you after that, it won't show up until you make a fresh export. Two, if two people show the same follow date, there's no time shown next to it, so you can't tell from the export alone who followed first.
