What is I Ching?
I Ching (易經), also known as the Book of Changes, is one of the oldest Chinese classical texts — over 3,000 years old. It was used by emperors for state decisions, by generals for military strategy, and by scholars for philosophical inquiry.
But here's what most Western entrepreneurs don't know: I Ching has been systematically used for business and strategic decision-making for millennia. The 64 hexagrams represent 64 archetypal situations that appear repeatedly in business, relationships, and life.
The Problem I Wanted to Solve
As an entrepreneur, I faced a classic problem: how do you make hard decisions when the data is ambiguous?
- Should I launch this product now or wait?
- Should I take this investor?
- Should I partner with this person?
- Should I expand to this market?
Traditional tools (SWOT, Porter's, etc.) are useful, but they don't help with timing and intuition. That's when I turned to I Ching.
What I Built
I built a free AI-powered I Ching divination tool specifically designed for entrepreneurs and business decisions.
It's not fortune-telling — it's pattern recognition. The 64 hexagrams map to 64 archetypal business situations. Combined with AI analysis, you get structured guidance that combines 3,000 years of strategic wisdom with modern AI.
Key features:
- Input your industry + specific question
- Compare options A vs B with structured analysis
- Investment decision support with risk tolerance scales
- 6 languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, German, French)
- Business-focused interpretations (not generic fortune-telling)
- Free to try, no signup required
Try It
The main tool is live and free: https://no5musiclin-code.github.io/iching-divination/iching-en/
The Technical Stack
This is a pure HTML/CSS/JS project — no backend required. All 8 core hexagrams are stored in a JavaScript object with detailed business interpretations. The paywall is handled client-side with localStorage.
Design: Dark mode (#0a0a0f) + gold theme (#d4af37) — feels mysterious and premium, like ancient wisdom meets modern tech.
Key Learnings
1. Niche positioning matters. Instead of competing with general divination apps, I focused specifically on business decisions. This allowed me to craft interpretations that speak directly to entrepreneurs.
2. Multi-language as a moat. Most I Ching tools are in English or Chinese alone. By covering 6 languages, I can serve the global market — including markets where I Ching is culturally significant (Japan, Korea, Vietnam).
3. Free as a funnel. The tool is 100% free with a paywall for premium features. This lowers the barrier to entry and builds trust before asking for payment.
