Grok 4.6 is here, but the real test starts beyond the benchmarks.

xAI has released Grok 4.6, positioning it as a frontier model for long-running coding agents, research, and interactive workflows.

The model starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.

But comparing AI coding models by token price alone can be misleading. Long-running agents can consume tokens through repository exploration, tool calls, retries, planning, and error recovery.

For developers, a more useful metric is cost per accepted task.

This article looks at Grok 4.6's pricing, benchmark claims, availability, and why repository-level testing will matter more than another benchmark chart.
