A hands-on winner’s review: ...

When I entered the Synology contest, I didn’t know I’d soon be testing a pro-grade NAS that promised to change both my family’s digital life and my wife’s YouTube content workflow. In this review, I put the DS925+ through its paces - as a techie, a husband, and the home’s support desk - uncovering whether it’s truly the ultimate NAS for creators and everyday families alike.

Why I Entered the Synology DS925+ Contest

As a techie husband to a content creator, our home became a backup vault, production studio, and tech support center rolled into one. My wife’s YouTube channel needed a workflow upgrade - external drives and cloud folders weren't cutting it.

The Synology contest felt like perfect timing. The DS925+ offered RAID-protected backup, automated media management, remote access, and Docker support - everything we needed. Winning was a small miracle; my goal was to test the DS925+ in real family and creator scenarios, uncover strengths and flaws, and see if it truly deserved the hype.

Specs & Hardware Walkthrough: Synology DS925+

Before powering on, I wanted to see if the DS925+ lived up to the hype for family and creator workflows.

Specs: Ryzen quad-core CPU, 4GB ECC RAM (expandable), 4 hot-swap bays, dual 2.5GbE, NVMe SSD slots, USB-C expansion, quiet fans.
Build: Premium, tool-less, and robust design with thoughtful ports.

NVMe SSD support, real 2.5GbE networking, and easy expansion set it apart for power users or creators.

The DS925+ is built for true data protection, speed, and growth.

RAID 1 Storage Creation

Setting up RAID 1 and enabling encryption was straightforward thanks to the clear storage creation wizard. The system ensures you save a recovery key for encrypted volumes - if you lose it, the data can’t be recovered - so I stored it securely.

Media Organization & Backup

Storage Layout and Folder Planning

I set up dedicated NAS folders for Cook with Priti’s Shorts, photos, and collaborations - organizing all media instantly. Thanks to seamless mobile syncing, thousands of photos and videos were backed up wirelessly, with no manual sorting.

Synology Photos added smart albums and automatic face recognition, grouping content by person, date, and theme for instant searching. These tools transformed backup into a creative powerhouse - speeding up video planning and content management.
