Introducing VolunteerConnect: An Open Source Contact Management MVP for Nonprofits and Social Organizations
VolunteerConnect is an open-source Minimum Viable Product (MVP) designed to help nonprofits, social organizations, and activist groups manage their contacts, volunteers, and supporters efficiently. The project is hosted on GitHub: https://github.com/halleshubham/VolunteerConnect/
🌱 Why VolunteerConnect?
Nonprofits and grassroots organizations often struggle with managing growing lists of volunteers, supporters, and donors. Most Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools are either too expensive or too complex for their needs.
VolunteerConnect aims to solve this problem by providing:
✅ A simple and easy-to-use web-based contact management system
✅ An open-source, community-driven alternative
✅ A scalable foundation for future enhancements like event management, communication tools, and analytics
💻 MVP Features at a Glance
The initial version of VolunteerConnect focuses on the core features necessary for effective contact management:
- Add New Contacts – Capture essential information like Name, Phone, Email, Location, and Notes
- View Contact List – A clean and searchable table of all contacts
- Edit / Delete Contacts – Keep your database updated easily
- Basic Filtering/Search – Quickly find contacts based on name or location
- Lightweight UI – Simple design keeping non-technical users in mind
🚀 Tech Stack
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Vanilla)
- Backend: PHP
- Database: MySQL
The stack is intentionally simple to ensure easy deployment on most shared hosting platforms commonly used by small NGOs.
🛠 Future Roadmap Ideas (Open for Contributions)

- Bulk messaging (Email/SMS/WhatsApp)
- Event registration and attendance tracking
- Data visualization for volunteer engagement metrics
- Role-based access for different team members
