Tag where every role came from

Most job trackers record a company name and a date. They tell you that you applied to a place, and then they leave you guessing until a rejection email arrives three weeks later.

If you want to know what is actually working in your search, you need to track the source tag for every role. Was it an RSS scrape, a direct career page, a recruiter inbox ping, or a referral from a former colleague?

When you tag every entry at ingestion, your search stops being a vague feeling of effort and becomes a dataset. After three months of tagging, patterns appear that general advice misses. You might discover that the boards you spend two hours scrolling through every morning yield zero replies, while the obscure industry feed you set up once quietly delivers an interview every five applications.

Interview rate per source is the only metric that belongs to you. It cuts through the noise of market reports and recruiter opinions. If board X has a four percent interview rate and board Y has zero percent after fifty tries, dropping board Y is not giving up, it is resource allocation.

Your tracker should be a map of what works, not a graveyard of unreturned applications. Tag the origin on day one, and let the numbers show you where to spend your energy tomorrow.
