In today’s competitive manufacturing landscape, productivity, accuracy, and repeatability are non negotiable. For industries that demand high volume production of internal profiles with exceptional precision, pot broaching stands out as one of the most efficient machining processes available. At Steelmans Broaches, we specialize in designing and manufacturing advanced pot broaching solutions that help manufacturers achieve consistent quality at scale.
What Is Pot Broaching?
Pot broaching is a specialized form of internal broaching used primarily for high volume production. Unlike conventional broaching—where the broach tool moves through the workpiece—pot broaching works by pushing or pulling the workpiece through a stationary broach that is housed inside a cylindrical holder known as a pot.
The cutting teeth are arranged progressively inside the pot, each tooth removing a small amount of material. As the component passes through, the desired internal profile is generated in a single pass, ensuring speed, accuracy, and uniformity.
Pot broaching is commonly used for machining:
• Internal splines
• Serrations
• Polygon profiles
• Keyways and special internal forms
