David Jonsson has quickly become one of the most exciting names in British acting. From television dramas to Hollywood blockbusters, his career has taken him from the West End to some of the biggest film franchises in the world.
For many viewers, David Jonsson first became widely recognised as Gus Sackey in Industry. The HBO and BBC Two drama ran from 2020 to 2022 and gave him an opportunity to establish himself as a serious screen actor.
His next major step came with Rye Lane (2023), where he played Dom. The romantic comedy showcased a lighter side of his acting and earned him a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Lead Performance.
Then came Alien: Romulus (2024). Playing Andy introduced Jonsson to a much larger international audience and demonstrated that he could handle the pressure of a major Hollywood production.
In 2025, he appeared in The Long Walk, the Stephen King adaptation, while also taking the lead role of Taylor in Wasteman. The latter brought another BIFA nomination, adding further recognition to an already impressive run.
His career received another major boost in 2025 when he won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
But perhaps his biggest role yet was announced in 2026. At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel confirmed Jonsson as the new Black Panther, playing Prince T'Challa II, the son of T'Challa and Nakia. Black Panther 3 is scheduled for release on 15 December 2028.
If you're discovering David Jonsson's work, Rye Lane is an easy starting point for his charm and comic timing, while Alien: Romulus offers his blockbuster side. Industry is essential for seeing where his television career took off, and The Long Walk shows his ability to lead a demanding studio project.
