Improving Visibility in Aerospace Manufacturing Through AI and IoT Technologies

Precision, traceability, and coordination – all of these are essential to manufacturing processes in aerospace. However, at times when CNC machines, tooling, materials, staff, QA procedures, and restricted areas work together simultaneously, achieving real-time visibility may be difficult.

This is where AI and Industrial IoT can contribute.

Using the technologies of connection like RFID, BLE, GPS, industrial sensors one can achieve physical process visibility. Then AI technologies and analytics will help to transform this information into valuable business insights.

Thus, manufacturers will be able to track specialized tooling, monitor material flow, evaluate workforce actions, and assess progress of the production. In composite manufacturing environmental sensing technologies also allow monitoring storage conditions and production processes.

Traceability is another aspect. By linking raw materials, work orders, tooling, personnel actions, and manufacturing process itself one will get a clearer picture of component's manufacturing.

However, this isn't only about gathering more data. The goal is to link gathered information to those platforms that people in charge already use (ERP and MES systems, for instance). This way one can ensure more complete picture of company's operations.
