Recently, I was listening to Professor Jiang Xueqin on Raj Shamani’s podcast. They talked about hidden power networks, the rise and fall of empires, and how massive global systems can suddenly shift or collapse.
That conversation got me thinking about the biggest "empire" in the tech and finance world right now: Tesla, and the massive AI hype surrounding it.
Many market experts are warning that a massive market correction is coming, and when it happens, no one will be able to stop it. But my hot take is a bit more specific - and a bit more controversial.
The Tesla "Wild" Valuation
Right now, Tesla’s share price is completely wild. The company has a massive market cap, often worth more than all other automakers combined. But if you look closely, much of its valuation isn't based on what it is doing today.
A lot of its value is built on research, experimentation, and future promises (like Robotaxis and Optimus robots). In fact, even the broader AI revolution is still largely in the "experimentation phase" and has not yet reached mass deployment or massive daily profits. Tesla simply hasn't produced enough meaningful, standalone results beyond its core cars to justify its trillion-dollar price tag. The stock price is built on hype, hope, and future dreams.
The Ultimate "Key Man" Risk
In business, there is a concept called "key-person risk" (or "key-man risk"). This happens when a company's success and valuation rely way too heavily on one single person.
When it comes to Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, Elon Musk is the ultimate key man.
Elon is not just a CEO. He is the visionary, the chief marketer, and the reason millions of fans and investors believe in the stock. He is the only person who can sell the dream of self-driving cars, humanoid robots, and Mars colonies.
My Hot Take: The Market Crash No One Can Stop
Here is my hot take: If anything were to happen to Elon Musk in the upcoming years - if he passes away(most likely) or completely steps away - the tech market wouldn't just dip. It would simply crash.
If Elon is gone, the hype machine stops. Investors will suddenly wake up and look at the actual balance sheets. They will realize that the AI and EV sectors are mostly still just experiments.
Without Elon, no one else can keep the Tesla share price floating on promises alone. The valuation will collapse, and no new CEO will be able to continue this level of market manipulation through sheer personality.
As one recent report bluntly put it regarding Musk's companies: "They have no future if he dies".
What do you think? Is Tesla’s massive valuation completely dependent on Elon Musk, or is the company bigger than him now?
