Both heroku & digital ocean are premium hosting websites where you can host a variety of web applications. Both are very powerful & high performance. As mentioned by Suraj, both are paid.

Fun Fact: Dev.to platform is hosted on Heroku

Heroku has free tier.

IIRC, you can host 5 dynamic sites without a credit card.

With credit card, but you don't have to pay anything, you can have unlimited sites.

Heroku is great, if you can live with the cold starts which are quite frequent and can cause a heavy delay. As far as I can tell (but that's not based on any research or performance testing), Netlify has a better free tier.

But I love both, very user friendly and have never been disappointed in any way. And now that Digital Ocean has jumped on the bandwagon, it might also be time to check that out. Their server offering is definitely one of the best around.

What your thoughts about firebase

Collapse

surajondev profile image
Suraj Vishwakarma

Firebase is great for managing backend data and its cost nothing and back my Google. So highly recommend

Firebase hosting is for dtatic sites that use firebase services.

Although, you don't really have to use firebase services to use hosting.

Firebase provides a tone of features and mainly focused to work as a backend for small projects who can't afford premium hosting. The free tier is really great and can easily get a job done but if you have big plans then you may have to look into the paid options. Overall firebase is lovely and extremely simple to implement.

I personally love it. ♥

Seems to be WordPress targeted.

Can I host something else, like Ghost?

WordPress is great but to unlock its full potential you need to buy a subscription.

Confusing UI for Netlify ?

I you are looking for free plan why are you looking at pricing structure ?

For free accounts:
Network Bandwidth: 100GB/month — Soft
Storage: 100GB — Soft
API requests: 500 requests/minute, 3 deploys/minute* — Hard

Free comes with "Limitation" . I would choose Firebase over Netlify.

You say these are for testing purposes. Would you recommend them for full-time website hosting?

Also, do any of these offer email services?

Collapse

surajondev profile image
Suraj Vishwakarma

For full purpose I recommend using their subscription to unlock their full potential and also they provide Neil service of their own or with Google.

I disagree with the Confusing UI for netlify cons.
They are trying to make their UI modern as much as possible.

Yess they are trying to make modern site but in some cases the is confusing especially on mobile devices

For Frontend Web Apps I recommend Netlify and For Backend AWS, Both of them have free tiers and both of them are really good and powerful services with a helpful support team.
