My submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge — Build for a Friend
I built HerDay for someone I care about who often has to juggle classes, assignments, exams, personal plans, and everyday reminders.
The problem wasn't creating another task list.
It was turning messy thoughts into a realistic plan — and adapting when real life changes.
🌸 What is HerDay?
HerDay is a private, adaptive AI planner.
You can simply tell it:
“I have my DBMS exam Friday, two chapters left, an assignment Thursday, class at 10 tomorrow, and I need to call my mom tonight.”
HerDay turns that into structured tasks, creates a schedule, and can replan when tasks are delayed or missed.

Gemma handles language understanding.
The application handles scheduling, conflicts, breaks, deadlines, and replanning.
This keeps the AI useful without giving an LLM uncontrolled authority over the user's schedule.
🤖 Why open-weight AI?
HerDay uses Gemma 2B through Ollama during local development.
Using an open-weight model gives the project:
🔒 Better privacy for personal planning data
🔄 Freedom to change models
💰 Local inference without per-request API costs
🛠️ More control over the AI layer
The AI is also intentionally replaceable — the scheduling engine doesn't depend on a specific model.
🎤 Voice Input
HerDay also includes a voice-input pipeline using ElevenLabs Scribe, allowing users to speak their plans instead of typing them.
🧠 Built for real life
Traditional planners assume the schedule will go according to plan.
HerDay assumes it won't.
If a task takes longer, gets missed, or plans change, the remaining schedule can be recalculated.
The goal isn't a perfect schedule.
It's a schedule that adapts to an imperfect day.

❤️ Why I built it
This challenge made me start with a person instead of a product idea.
I didn't ask:
“What AI app should I build?”
I asked:
“What would actually make someone's day easier?”
That's how HerDay started.
