iOS 27.2 is the update that turns on stylus support for the iPhone Duo, so phones that ship with iOS 27.1 need to be updated before the pen works.
A few practical points worth knowing:
- Only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is supported, and it is sold separately.
- First pairing uses a USB-C cable and the "Tap to Connect" prompt; after that the cable can be unplugged until you restart the phone, turn off Bluetooth or pair the pencil with another device.
- The cable is also how the pencil charges from the phone.
- It works on both the outer and inner screens for notes, drawing and annotation.
- It recognizes tilt, but there is no pressure sensitivity, Double Tap, squeeze, barrel roll, haptic feedback or Find My. Hover support on the Duo is not confirmed.
No third-party apps with Duo-specific stylus workflows have been identified yet.
