If you want an advice, try to put a chronometer just beside your keyboard. You just start it when you start working, no need to reset it, no need to track it. It was as simple as that for me.

Just being conscious of the time passing will help you focus on things better. When I started doing that, I noticed that a lot of the pressure just disappeared. Your brain will stop asking you to move on to other things, « no it’s okay we still have a few hours to work on this, we’ll move on after I feel like we’ve done something. » It really boosted my productivity.

Also, looking at a lot of things at once isn’t bad, nobody focuses on a single thing for weeks. I mean, you could focus on « web development » for weeks, but you won’t focus on « that particular tool » for weeks. You may focus on a project that uses it a lot, but you will also use other things, which, by the force of things, you will study.

Not a bad idea I might try that. Sometimes I decide to focus on one particular thing like last week made a start on learning Vue animations section of course I'm doing, but struggled to stay focused enough to finish it. I do try and set aside time to focus and block distractions but I used to be able to do it for longer than I can now. Maybe it's just the environment too much time in the same place sometimes I'd take myself off to library or coffee shop and sit down for an hour and it definitely helped me be bit more focused.
